Kigali — Starways, a Kenyan private bus company operating in Rwanda is planning to open-up four more routes in the region by the end of the year, the company's spokesperson in Kigali said on Monday.
Eric Rwirema, the company's publicist in Kigali said that the company will purchase 12 buses to serve the proposed routes of Kigali-Kampala-Nairobi- Dar es Salaam, Kigali-Dar es Salaam via Rusumo and Bujumbura-Kigali-Kampala.
He said they are planning to open-up the Kampala-Kigali-Bukavu route, making it the first bus company in the region to operate on this path.
Starways, which operates in the East African Community countries and Southern Sudan, said it will invest Ksh120million (Rwf871 million) to purchase 12 buses in a move that will help it to cash in on the increasing intra-regional trade.
According to Rwirema, the investment will help meet the needs of the region's growing passenger traffic. "We have modern buses with ample seats, breathing space and entrainment (televisions). All our buses have inclining sits that allow our clients to relax," Rwirema said.He said it costs Rwf8,000 from Kigali to Kampala and Rwf23,000 from Kigali to Nairobi with meals on the bus included.
